Members' Cars / 3 months on...
It's now 3 months since I bought my '91 Driver. In that time it's had a new cylinder head gasket, water pump, timing belt, various coolant leaks fixed, new head lining, various bits of internal & external trim replaced, red stripe grille, and my latest purchase is a pair of red stripe bumpers from Germany. I know this isn't OEM for a Driver, but I love the look! I think the next job will be a new heater matrix, as after various repairs the heater is still cold.
I'm really pleased with the car, it now goes really well both in city traffic and the right hand lane of the M6 (even when it's moving).

Technical / New battery
Hi Everybody!

I'm looking to change the battery on my 1991 Golf Driver 1.6. It has the 72HP RF engine with a webber carb.
Currently, the car has a "Drivetec' heavy duty DM063 (44AH) battery fitted.
When I check drivetec's website they say its not compatible with the car.
I'm struggling to find which battery I need, various websites are suggesting 063, 065 & 075.

Any advice gratefully received  :D

Other Problems / No heat from heater
Hi Everyone,

I have a '91 1.6 Driver that I got in July. I've just discovered no heat comes from the heater (first time using it!). Any ideas why?

This is off the bottom of the passenger rear door on the outside. Does anyone know where I can buy the metal that holds the rubber seal on the door, and what the metal is called?

Mk2 Golf Chat / Original trim.
Hi,

I have a 1991 1.6 (Cat) Driver 5 door in Pasander blue.
Currently it has a grille without the red stripe, a front bumper without a red or chrome stripe and a back bumper with the upper chrome stripe. The door window surrounds are in black and the door handles inserts are chrome.
What was this cars original spec? Did it have red bumpers/grille or plain grille and chrome inserts on the bumpers?
Any help greatly appreciated as I'd like to get it original if possible.

Technical / Rough idle.
Hi, I have a ‘91 Driver with the 1.6 RF engine and the Pierburg/Solex 2E2 carb. The car has a manual choke, but after doing some digging it looks like it was originally an automatic choke. It starts and runs well, but splutters at very low gentle revs, it’s fine if acceleration is medium or hard, but it idles unevenly and smells strongly of petrol. Any input greatly appreciated.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Changing headlining colour.
Hi!

I'm changing my headlining from white to black.
On cars that were produced with black headlining are the sun visor arm and clip black? Also the trim on the rear quarter by the rear seat belt anchor and around the roof, are the black also? If they are, does anyone know where I can get black ones and the trim for inside the sunroof?

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Wanted, items of interior trim & air filter box
Hi,

I'm looking for some items for a '91 Driver 1.6 I've just bought.

Air filter box.
Parcel shelf support brackets for both sides.
The plastic cover over the wheel arch by the accelerator for a right hand drive car.
White headliner for a 5 door with sunroof.

Ive just bought today a very nice 1991 Gold Driver 1.6 in Pasadena Blue.
It doesn't have an airbox fitted, does anyone know where I can get One?
