Mk2 Golf Chat / Parts Needed
Afternoon All,

Thanks to some remote assistance from @Eagle , I have managed to get my Mk2 1.6 EZ Driver running. A bit of a bag of spanners at the moment, but it's alive!

I'm looking for two parts;
  • Air Intake Pipe 1.6-1.8 Carburettor
  • Cardboard Corrugated Heat Exchanger Air intake Hose

They're available from Heritage, but the intake pipe is £75 and the cardboard hose isn't in stock! Can anybody point me in the direction of these parts at a better price, perfectly happy with 2nd hand. I'm just struggling to find anything on eBay, or anywhere else for that matter!

TIA,

Alex

You're quite right. It was always described as the carburettor 'base plate' being the problem, so I've ordered a carb gasket and seals kit for £40 and one of the mounting that you mention for £10 off eBay.

What I plan to do is literally just change that mount and see if it runs acceptably. Then once I know that that has worked, then I'll work methodically through the obvious things like changing fuel filters, fuel lines, oil change, spark plugs, cables, air filters etc etc. It seems pointless to do all of those things to a non-runner and then find it's beyond my limited talent to fix it!

Thank you @Eddypeck , much appreciated. You've also inadvertently answered another question of mine, which is that I can work on the carb and make sure that I can get it running before I start to worry about replacing any of these hoses.

Morning, I've recently inherited a 1990 1.6 Driver. Non-runner at the moment, but was a daily driver until a couple of years ago. If memory serves, it had some carburettor trouble and it was just easier for the owner to put the Golf in the barn and buy something newer.

I need a bit of help identifying two hoses which are shot (eaten by mice...). This pic isn't my engine, but it's identical.

Mk2 Parts for Sale & Breaking / Re: Wanted: Carburettor for 1.6 1990 Driver
Having done a little more research on this topic, it seems to me that it might be a little more prudent to get myself one of the PIERBURG 2E2 & 2E3 CARBURETTOR SERVICE/GASKET/REPAIR KITs and see if that helps before attmepting to find a whole new carburettor! At £40 or so, that doesn't seem like too much of a gamble.

It's a manual and I suspect that I'm looking for a Pierburg - whatever the standard fit carb on the vehicle is. This isn't quite a 'barn find', but it was SORNed and put in the shed by my father-in-law about 3 years ago. Before it went away, it was apparently nearly running, having benn diagnosed as requiring a new carburettor base plate.

How could I confirm what model of carb is on the vehicle?
