General Chat / Re: Window Trim
Not sure. If this is for the rear of a moredoor then as a temp fix you could chop a front 3 door one as a temp fix and paint the cut end. I did that then found a couple of excellent used ones.
I've also cut down the rubbers from the front of a 3 door like yours to compensate for the rear quarter light rubber shrinking an leaving an unsightly gap!

Other Car Sales & Wanted / WANTED MK2 Heater box "cog"
In my quest to install aircon into my MK2 daily I'm piecing together a MK2 heater box and MK3 aircon module whilst leaving the car intact for as long as possible.
My "spare" MK2 heater box is missing one of the "intermediate" cogs which moves the flaps. Has anybody got one I can purchase please?

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: MK3 Aircon into MK2 anyone got a guide?
Monkey, don't worry, your bundle of joy will be walking before I finish this!!

So I connected the MK2 cables to the MK3 heater box. First problem is that the screen/footwell heater flap cable routes the opposite way hence that set-up isn't going to work.
It looks like the top of the MK2 heater box case will need to be used if not the whole MK2 heater box with the MK3 aircon module attached. If it is the latter then there will be less issues with the bulkhead bolts since the (edit) UPPER bulkhead bolt is lower down on the MK3 heater box.
The MK2 bottom bulkhead bolt sticks out further that the MK3 one, not sure if the bulkheads are a different pressing or not

Some pics so you can see the differences, I've updated them with some meaningful text.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: MK3 Aircon into MK2 anyone got a guide?
Update.
So this week we were staying in St Neots which is close to where the MK3 aircon setup was patiently waiting to be collected so I made an early morning detour to pick it up along with a couple of other bits.
I'm now back home and comparing the MK3 heater box with a standard MK2 one. I'll post some pics when I've taken a selection since there don't seem to be many on-line.
On the whole there are many similarities. The MK3 aircon module is obviously quite chunky and the blower is mounted vertically not horizontal. The central "mixer" is very similar but the MK3 controls are directly connected to the flaps whereas the MK2 are indirect via additional cogs, they also route slightly differently so I'm not sure if they can be directly swapped over or not The lower bulkhead bolts are positioned differently too.
...tbc tomorrow with a bit of luck!...

What''s the replacement going to be? A proper Beetle S !
But seriously the Porsche looks great. My fave would be a 356B or C tho. I recall going to see one in need of restoration for circa £2.5k in th 80s.

New Members Say Hi! / Re: Newbie looking for info
Good luck on your quest to find one.
Here is a  link to the gov MOT history website. This gives you a 'heads-up" as to areas to look for. Looks like you best check for how bad the rust is. I guess the price/budget/your ability to get it fixed is the other factor.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Help - MK2 Towbar on a 91 BB - Any Removable types?
Can someone suggest a suitable towbar for my 91 BB Golf? I've surfed the net and it looks like the only ones available have a permanent ball and need a bumper cut-out, however a detachable one without the cut-out would be ideal.

Background
So we have a 4 berth caravan and it is the main reason we have the Octy Scout. However I've been surfing around and if I wanted to downsize on the caravan there are a few varieties of pop-top caravans that my 91 BB Golf or another small car could tow.
That reduces the need for a "big" car which isn't needed 99% of the time....and is another reason for not getting rid of my beloved !!!

General Chat / Re: On-line suppliers...
Re B&B... I had a query regarding a part I was after and couldn't see listed. I called them up and was able to confirm the part I required.
Not something you can do with many of these bedroom entrepreneurs  :D

Suspension & Steering / Correcting the camber settings with a camber tool
So it has been a while since I last had the steering alignment corrected. I've bought some camber adjustment bolts and a camber alignment tool and thought I'd have a go myself.
The Haynes bible says the camber needs to be:
-35' +- 20' which seems to be a third to a fifth of a degree negative camber?

My camber level increments in degrees! Maybe I just use it to see how far out it is then take it to a garage!
