General Chat / Re: Ask anything about FINLAND
I watch Hans's garage on 'The Youtube'... he's Finnish with a Peugeot 205 GTI plus a Saab and some Volvo's.

Looks a beautiful place where he is.

Is English routinely taught as a second language? Like you his is exceptional.

Reply #2 on this, wanted to add something:

I actually never use a dictionary or translator if I don't remember some words. First I try to dig my memory of that specific word and if I remember it, I never have a problem remembering it in the future. I have found that this helps me master english language even better, if I use a translator the word just doesn't stick to my mind as good :-)

I've also noticed that Finnish people are good at spelling the words right when typing or writing because they teach it at school very strictly and we had english language spelling and speak tests already at 3rd grade in elementary school!

Finland is beautiful from what I remember - years ago i went to a Scout camp in Porvoo... which i believe is towards the south?
I remember Helsinki being very clean, and also the insane amount of daylight.

interesting fact - while there we went to an Ostrich farm, and to this day i still know how to ask is Finnish (to a degree) Where is the Ostrich Farm?

Haha! Yes in summer we have a lot of daylight and the nights are mostly very bright. But in mid winter season we only have about 4 hours of daylight. Now in January we got about 6 hours of daylight :)

Looks much better with a proper grill! 8)

Yes it does! Need to source a big bumpers somewhere, I'm not a fan of those small ones, they make car look so old :D

Small bumpers are they way forward, big bumpers are for 90s people with shoulder pads ... small bumper side mouldings and big bumpers are just wrong as well ... Well done on the -20 mechanics , we had a frost today

I actually decided to go with the small ones, though I still need to buy a new front one because some dickhead has drilled massive holes on top of it when installing auxiliary lights... Makes me mad!

I'm used to work in the cold, just need to be a bit more careful with the plastic parts but otherwise it's not a problem for me

I've done some work on the Golf. Mainly improvements and fixing the annoying little things that drive you crazy..

Local vw dealer had these laying around so got them with a discount when I bought them all.
Now the seats glide like new, even better than our bmw e46's seats does  :D

Two sets (8pcs total) of rear runner guides and one set of the front ones. So I have 1 spare set of rear ones.

Might as well wash the seats and vacuum the carpet good at this point:

Pic at starting point, believe me when I say the grime that came out of the seat was like liquid tar..

Carpet vacuumed good and seat rails cleaned tip-top.

I also changed ALL the shifter related bushings and parts, feels like new now:

Some parts are missing from the pic so don't worry I did change them all  ;)

New reverse lockout plate riveted in place.

Shifter box fully rebuilt with new parts and lubed with silicone grease.

Changed the nuts and washers too 'cause didn't want any old parts in there  ???

Also got this, amazing improvement on the shifting experience!

Weighted shift rod from a Golf mk3

A little fun mod that I've wanted to do since I decided to buy this car  :D

Still waiting for my new non euro plates to arrive, not digging the blue region section of the license plates  ::)

Yes I watch his channel too! Brilliant work.

English is taught from 3rd grade all the way to vocational education. I've always had top grades in english language at school, mainly because I've learned by myself from when I was 8 years old. I remember struggling to read something in english and then I decided I want to be able to read and speak english so I will never have any problems anymore   :D

Ah , you bought it, well done, looks good after a polish, is it staying red or going orange, don’t see many orange ones

Yeah I did and I'm very happy with it! I've already driven 1500km with it and still pleased. It's going to stay red for now, still need to polish the rear end of the car, now I've polished it from hood to the B-pillar, massive amount of time it takes...

Engine & Gearbox / Re: 1.6 EZ Misfire
Has the carb been cleaned? I would suggest to do a full clean on the carb and check the accelerator pump functionality. When has the timing belt been done? Known error on timing belt install is to jank it too tight and that causes wear on the "distributor cam" bearings and thats a engine out job to fix. I would check the timing with a timing lamp to be sure the timing is staying stable at all rpm's.

Easy method to check for vacuum leaks is to carefully spray brake cleaner to all manifold/carb/hoses, if the rpm's rise you have found a leak, but remember be careful when spraying it especially if the engine is hot and the exhaust manifold is right under the intake.

If your fuel and temp gauges are still acting a bit weird, I suggest you check your 10V source to the temp sensor which is regulated by the small regulator behind the clock. It could work but it can be regulating a weaker voltage or maybe even higher and then you get non-trusted readings from gauges. Mine was completely broken which resulted in non-functioning temp & fuel gauges.  The voltage should be from 9.5V to 10.5V.

How do you get throught those long dark winters?

How many cups of coffee do you think you get through in a day?

IMO winter is nice and enjoyable for the two first months, but when it gets to the coldest season (mid december to mid february) I really start hoping for summer :D

Finnish coffee consumption can actually be referred to british tea culture, we drink coffee like 4 times a day (1-2 cups per time) and coffee is also made when guests come, after sauna, stopping at gas station, going out to the woods skiing etc. I personally drink like 7 cups a day. Soo we drink a lot of coffee!

Hmmm, good idea!

What's the VW scene like over there? Are there meets or track days?

I gotta tell Finland is the worst country for car enthusiasts, there are sooo much regulations and for example a mk2 vr6 swap is only a dream here. There is one vw regulated community and one mk2 golf specific club but here in Finland people are so c*nts that if they know something they make sure nobody else gets to know it.. For example the pro 8V tuners here don't share any information but they have made a 8V 1.8 dual carb that makes 180hp, I think thats a very big achievement(?)

We have 2 tracks here in Finland and last track day was at 2019.
