I have finally completed these stickers.. albeit I could have just ordered from Germany, but I needed something to entertain me at the moment!

Old one

The font is a direct copy of the original that I made from scratch.. also measurements and are pulled from my sticker.

Basically too much detail went into this thing.. but im happy with the result..

@t2000 pointed out a mistake, sorted and now here it is 🤘🤘

Also i fitted my t piece and sender to the engine.. I'm starting to lose my cool with these gauges and lose sight of their use.. I've never felt so defeated by something..
T piece in and VW sender with VDO sender in, plugged in and still showing full 5 on the gauge when car up to full temp... Tried everything, seems the senderaybe isn't earthed correctly or the guage wiring is dodgy.. but the other 3 work fine and the earth etc is in unison as per this image..

Here's to trying again..

It's possible LR Discovery MK1 (Part # AMR2496) have the same window switches as the MK2.

If they have green illumination, they're still available new for small money and would be an easy fix... yet to look any further into that though, maybe someone else already has?

The log book sticker is just the boot one with some detail removed.

If you're finding the leather dye is rubbing through give it a coat of Fiebings Resolene, comes in clear or black, and seals it in.

Now I don't have electric windows.. so I don't have to worry about that haha

if you would like the info on how to change the LED's and also how to do the MFA clock drop me a PM and i can get some info over to you bud

also @L90E if you could measure the log book sticker - id be grateful and can get one made :D

Someone's been busy!

Momo transformation is startling, well done. The standard wheel is probably the only iffy part of MK2's for me. Don't think I've ever kept the original on, even when I was driving them back in the 80/90's.

Brave man tackling the MFA display, not sure I'd have the courage but very good to know it can be done if the need arises. Wonder why they seem to be so susceptible to failing, just old tech?

The illumination on some of my switches is quite dim, be interested in a 'how to' if you have the time. Tried opening up some old spare window switches, but couldn't get them to go back together properly again.

The Night Design VDO's are quite hard to come by in the UK, less so in Germany but now proving difficult to get sent here unfortunately.

They're unusual for VDO's in that the bezels will twist off if you're very, very, very careful.

Long time ago saw some 'Oettinger' branded VDO's up for grabs on eBay, went for what was big money back then and now you know how it was done!

Good work on the data sticker, looks very authentic. If you look into the factory equipment / option codes you could tailor it to match any additions you've made to your car.

There's a corresponding sticker for the log owners service shedule, be an added touch maybe?

Thanks! Really happy with the MOMO wheel now, probably could do with being done again now I'm using it.. haven't noticed random rough spots.

The MFA display I believe is just ok tech, the screen bleeds.. @L90E I can give you a walkthrough on replacing if you ever need it.. let me know. It was different to all how tos as the clocks were different..

The led switches was a bit of a faff.. I can do one better and send you over some details as well with all how to do it 👍👍

Thanks on the sticker, I've realised I've done a tweak since this photo but yeh need to see if there's anything I can add..
And no wasn't aware of the log owners sticker?? Have you a photo of this?

That makes sense to my basic knowledge!

If the symbols on your sender are there to denote which pole is which then they would be mirroring the markings on similar VDO senders.

If that's the case the single wire from 'G' on your VDO gauge will go to the spade with the white plastic base.

The spade with the black plastic base is optional and only to be used if you want to install an additional warning light. If not it can be left unconnected to anything.

The new light if fitted will come on when the pressure is below 0.3 bar.

If you do use it, it will in effect create 2 x independant warning systems, your original VW one and your new senders one, that's assuming you are keeping both by using an adapter that both old and new senders can fit to.

The new sender has its earth when attached to the engine.

If you do go for an extra warning light you'd have to consider does it activate at a similar point to the standard VW one's so as not to be causing confusion.

Oh right! So the second spade isn't for the MFA!? I had read somewhere you could use it for that? I've also bought an M10 t piece to help.
Now the question for this is I have tested my sender.. earthed the gauge and it went from 5 to 0 so it seems the sender is the issue..
Time to order a new one

Tried making it a direct link to their site but mustn't work on certain devices - hopefully you can see it now...

Some early morning searching because I have a baby has brought me to this image..

I know it's not for the model of sender, however the symbology is the same.
Gauge image on my sender to gauge and then the X with a circle indicating the low pressure warning light.. i.e. the wiring to the sender there already?
Maybe I'm wrong.. I'll get some copper washers and install the sender and give the car a good run to see what I get from the gauge

Time for an update.
Plenty has been done - scrolling through my phone to get a time line of events... since my last input i have bailed on the repaired resistor - and bought a new one which fits on the connector better - no issues with the fan at all now.

so - i have repaired my MOMO wheel.. using a leather steering wheel repair kit from amazon. Would highly recommend, taking time to complete each step is a good way to do things.
Before

Kit used

During

After

Chuffed with the results - really happy.

also went one step further and found the paint codes for the MOMO Yellow (Traffic Yellow RAL1023) and Red (Traffic Red RAL 3020 for anyone wondering)  - bought small paint pots and filled them in to make the wheel feel completely new. this was the moment where I understood why @L90E goes into so much detail with his build, its well worth those little details

I also got a proper screen for the MFA and replaced that, whilst i was doing that as well i got the LEDS completed on my cluster and dash as well. Replaced the LEDS in the Rear Demist Switch, Fog Light, Headlight switch and also the heater control panel

New LEDS and wheel installed.

also the car was away getting an immobiliser fitted, when back i installed new front speakers, also picked up some AKTIV speaker grills, had to get the rubber grommets to hold speaker = fitted the tweeters included into the dash speaker locations. mounts made from MDF (no pictures of this)

not a massive ICE person - so these do the job, also got the matching kit for the rears and fitted those - the radio however is only 2 channel.. so in comes the Panasonic Car Compo Amp.. (40w+40w)

installed in the tray below glovebox - drilled holes in back of this and wired into the radio with Panasonic 8 pin connector - this now powers the rear speakers. its not the prettiest, and certainly not the most powerful, but it does what i need an I'm really happy with it

ive also been playing around with how to control the Antenna i will install - i want to be able to control it going up and down without having to turn radio on and off.  this is my latest 'protoype'
There is a Japanese spec dash switch for the antenna but it is pretty common actually as hens teeth.

Its not massively OEM - but in theory it will allow me to control it while radio is on.

New badges on the back - 8v OEM style badge from Trimsports..

also got the same badge and whacked it on t3he glovebox (you can see it earlier on)

my most recent venture is VDO gauges - i bought an Oil Pressure gauge and sender.. then was 'gifted' a set of VDO Night Dial gauges from my Father in Law.. now to add to this I wanted to keep my radio and had found a way of installing gauges into where the ashtray is.. however the plastic mount from AwesomeGTI felt expensive (the shipping to NI from Manchester was about £8 weirdly) and that didn't sit well with me.. however someone on the facebook (apologies if someone on here as well) noted that there was a metal one that was almost OEM look/feel.. tracked it down to GAK Motorsports. However he will not post internationally because he cant be bothered (fair enough) so step forward American friends. ordered online to a friend in Ohio who then got it 2 days later and packed it and posted to me
Aluminium GAK Gauge panel + posting to Belfast from USA $35 =£25
Plastic AwesomeGTI Panel + posting to Belfast £35

mental.

the outcome of this was well worth it.

excuse the mismatch of gauges - unfortunately the night dial gauges done fit all in this location because of their bezels.. made do with the Audi 80 Oil Pressure Gauge in the middle - still figuring out how to make sure its working.. but that's another story.

oh and my data sticker was old and worn - so id seen the posts about the German eBay guy who makes them - however I thought i could do it myself, I'm handy enough on graphic design...
this is my data sticker redone.. needs corners trimmed

apologies for the long one.

At the moment this is the clearest I can find for your FAE sender.

Anyone with better skills than me at reading electrical schematics may be able to say what your 2 x poles are for.

I'm being influenced by what I've found out about VDO senders and that may not apply to other brands.

On a VDO sender one pole goes to the gauge and the other to an optional warning light, the sender itself earths by being screwed into wherever it goes.

Your poles may be a pos. and neg. for all I know and that'd obviously change everything.

Likewise the 0.3 may also be the point the warning light is activated for low pressure and not the degree of accuracy?

Keep us posted, this is something I'm keen to know more about, be interesting and useful to see how it pans out.

I don't know whether an image was meant to be included? However I'm going install and then run car with gauge wiring to pole with gauge image... Let the car get to full temp.. I've also ordered a t piece with 2x M10x1 that I also have for the temp sender.. which works fine.

I used your info to try and work out if the sender was for the head or the oil filter housing... Stupid lack of knowledge..
I'll let you know what my findings are bud, us northern Irish kids keeping the world informed lol

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: Auxiliary Gauges...
So yeh the face the needle goes up seems to be a good start... When I attach the wire to G at back and onto the sender, I use the left hand (white) as I feel that means to sender... Then I plug my MFA to the right hand side (black spade one below)
The sender stays at 5. If I ground the wore from G on gauge to chassis.. stays at 5.. maybe I need to just let it run for along time and see if the gauge drops?
Had read that the gauge can show 5 on cold start..(Belfast is chilly)
And then running about 1-2 when oil warmer... This was rubjohnny on clubgti, and I trust his knowledge.. https://www.clubgti.com/forums/index.php?threads/vdo-guage-installation-mk2-scirocco.281676/

I appreciate this is not genuine VDO sender.. however got the sender and single pressure gauge for £30 2nd hand.. so would be ok if it needs replacing lol

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: Auxiliary Gauges...
Good morning! @L90E I have been attempting to get my head around this whole setup.. I hope this is well worth the hassle.

I have installed my gauges, volt, pressure and temp.. volt is reading 12 when ignition on and then just above for when engine running. The temperature gauge is also working as showing temp increase when running..

The pressure gauge though.. it's a 5 bar gauge and when ignition on shoots straight to 5.. is this correct?

These are currently on eBay, two different seller names but clearly the same person -

They're branded 'Lucas' but are genuine VDO's and appear to be old stock.

Apart from being a very fair price for what should be quality items (I've no connection to the seller) they might interest MK2 owners because unusually for VDO's of that style they've white needles -

If you are, there aren't many left -

thats a great price for those

Yep, I can print them out. Thingiverse is brilliant for stuff like that.
It's where I got my centre console one from.
I'm actually planning to upload my switch blank up there when I get time too.

By the time I've printed and posted, it would probably be about £10 for a set.

i'd go for those at that price - my metal bending would be awful, and happy to pay for someone else to do the work haha

This is a great read! Thanks for this @L90E

Also, don't bin the idea.. stay with it and then we can get the answers and then once I've got my gauges in and working then go ahead to Digifiz haha

Also @Monkey what would the cost be on a 3d printed gauge bracket?
I would need 3...
