I.C.E & Electrical / Re: Digital LCD clock repair
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpYYWuCxqzs

You could try pulling it, or taking mifoil off the back to confirm no hidden screws

tried to pull it - seems to be attached more - i need to get it our again but the whole thing was a ball ache tbh - now im more set on fixing it haha

it seems that white square (dont now what it is) is causing it no to be removed properly so i dont want to pull to hard..

this will not defeat me

I.C.E & Electrical / Fuel Sender issues
Morning all,

had a crack at trying to solve the fuel gauge issue on mine - earthed the wiring at the fuel sender and the gauge flew up to max - so assume it is the sender unit causing the issue

following the hHaynes manual - the removal seems easy enough

also I am going to attempt this fix - Fuel Sender Fix

and finally if that doesnt work, would this part from VWH resolve the issues before getting the whole unit?

VDO Fuel Sender Universal

thanks

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: "gifted" Immobiliser ...
I have same issue with a Clifford alarm / immobiliser.

i have no idea whether i want to commit to trying to work out how to fit the wiring..

i also have the clifford alarm that he used - it says XL-10 but the wiring diagram for the XL-1000 is excatly the same.. all it needs a horn though, it has piezo sensor, glass sensor etc - and my gti must have had an alarm at some point because there are already bonnet pins installed

Another white MK2... if it weren't for the indecently good looking driver in your picture, it'd be like looking in the mirror!

Health to enjoy it, I'm not a million miles away - just beyond Antrim.

I've been reading your thread thoroughly! I didn't realise you were in NI, yours is substantially cleaner and more original looking than mine!
I may be askin to see yours in person haha

Re the temp sensor.
If the issue is with the temp guage in the car it is the black sensor that you may need to change. B+B on ebay sell them and give great service/delivery. Not sure about to Belfast tho.
I think the blue one is to do with the mixture etc. My blue sensor failed and caused havoc making the car undrivable.

Changed the black coolant temperature sensor tonight, nothing changed..

Guessing next step is to check dash connections.

The fuel gauge also doesn't work so will hopefully get both fixed in one go..

I honestly despise the electrical checking etc... I have no real experience with that

Car looks great.
I had the same problem with my heater fan, moving the connector/ cable to get it working and the fault was the resistor pack. Bought a new resistor from B & B components.

I think this is the way it's going for me tbh, trying to source the resistor is proving awkward for some reason... Many of them seem to state LHD.. is that important or I'm guessing they're not sided?

I.C.E & Electrical / "gifted" Immobiliser ...
Hi all again,

So I have been given an old immobiliser that was in my father in law's old Mazda MX-5.

It is a cobra 0802t HOWEVER he didn't think to label the cables when cutting them out of the wiring in his  :o

Is this usable... Is there anyway I can make this work and know which cables are which because I don't really want to fork out for a new one if this is possible.

Tell me straight haha

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: Boot lock central locking
I might be wrong but that doesn't look factory. Do you have aftermarket central locking or is it the air fed OEM set up and I'm juts not seeing it right?

Its definitely not factory looking at the information now - the actuator still works perfectly.

I will try and get a picture to show the pin going 'under' the rod to lock which means then the button cannot be pushed in all the way to allow the lock to open.

the problem is when unlocked - and button pressed it moves it slightly and doesn't leave space for the actuator to slide the pin in fully.

I cant get my head round how to stop the button moving when pressed

i'll try and get pictures/videos to see if anyone has an idea :D

I.C.E & Electrical / Boot lock central locking
Morning all,
Bear with me on this as I try to explain..

So when I do the central locking the boot doesn't lock, however last night I pulled it apart and greased it and it started working as the pin In the image below slides between the button hinge and pull rod to lock to stop it opening fully..

However I realised this morning it's only a partial fix, as when you open the boot and close it, the lock pin doesn't slide through properly ... UNLESS you grab the button with your fingers and pull out towards me a few mm to create a small gap for pin to slide through.. now this is ok for now, but what part would be causing this or would I be best getting the whole button setup?

Any help/advice would be great,
Edit:
I'm now aware this is definitely not a factory fit locking system 👍

Just checked etka online. The black one is called "temperature sensor
for coolant temperature gauge"

Haha so yeh should have looked at this before ordering lol

Balls. Well sure I've got the blue one installed haha can't be a bad thing, I've got the black one ordered already on Eurocarparts but will check etka online tomorrow for different part numbers and source one asap :)
Someone said it was the blue one and I thought I'd read it somewhere.. obviously wrong.. eff sake haha
