General Chat / Re: How having a mk2 impacts on you life in other ways....
Do hope it pulls off for you! I do hate it when things like this happen - the number of jobs I hear of when people go for them, perform well and then the panel re-evaluate if they need to fill the role at all! You don't care so much when you're employed and have that safety net but so gutting on so many levels to get so far, like the place, do a good interview, be a good fit etc....And then they change their mind! Best of luck with it and hope it goes your way

Mk2 Golf/Jetta Sales / Re: Non-starting 1991 J Golf 1.8 Driver Auto for sale
Could you include some photos, perhaps the reg and some rough idea of price. Although there's less of a market for an auto, all mk2 Golfs are still sought after by the right kind of person! I think with a few more details it'd help massively. I'm interested myself but I've not yet finished my own mk2 project and probably get shot if I sourced yet another!

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: CE1 Wiper stalk
Ah ha, you are looking for the same one I had to source too. Only fitted to 88 and 89 before it changed to CE2. Slightly chunky stalk and more modern than the earlier.

I sourced mine from Mark Carter at Classic VW in the end. Excellent service and helped where the other two main suppliers couldn’t.

It is a uncommon part though so he may not have another but worth a try!

Here’s mine including the part number.

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: CE1 Wiper stalk
It’s 100% not CE2. Def CE1. Did have it fitted to my CE1 Golf but now have the correct CE1 late one fitted!

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: CE1 Wiper stalk
I have a Scirocco one - not sure how this differs from the mk2 Golf one. Mine is a 331 953 503K . I believe it's the same part but I'll do some more digging.

New Members Say Hi! / Re: Old member re-registered!
Great, another local! My bloody fuel pump has failed yet again, so another set back to getting mine back on the road again! When I do get this resolved and all the other 100s of jobs, I no doubt be up for a good tour around the area and will beep and wave if I see anyone.

Members' Cars / Re: 1989 LHD Special GTI 8v
There is, I did buy the cheap one and although I can connect to it there’s no way of telling the head unit to switch to that input.

Looks to be about £30 for the CD emulator version so a bit steep but I’ll probably still go for it.

I did consider a mk4 head unit too, but when I took it apart to change the illumination it’s got about a million SMD LEDs and didn’t fancy changing every single one! At least this one offers CD rather than the tape deck on the mk4.

Other Problems / Re: Apply pressure to brake pedal = no fluid loss when undoing brake connections?
My top tip would be zip tying the rear compensator. Before I did this I just couldn't do the rear brakes. Jacked the car up and still no joy. I used a Gunson kit I think - from Screwfix for about £20. I'm sure there's better/cheaper ones out there, but once I had let some air out of the spare tyre (it needs a low PSI to work) the system worked well. A little more fiddly than I'd hoped but used minimal fluid (I'd changed my M/C and all the solid brake lines) so needed a full flush/replace) and was pleased to have done it all myself!
