Yep you’re probably right. I’d gladly attach a couple of pics but I can’t see an attach button on my i phone to post snaps (you can tell I’m not an avid poster lol) 🤷‍♂️Any tips anyone?

In order to post pictures on here I use a site called imgbb.com

I upload on my account which is sorted via album and use “BB CODE FULL LINKED” - copy and paste, which then provides a picture once posted.
I’ve struggled to post pics but I’ve added a link below so fingers crossed....
Today was the first time I’ve turned her over since last year and she started on the first turn of the key 👍

Looks lovely that! Your car is my new goal!

Thanks guys! Operation was successful - should be good for another 15 years - although some lifestyle and perhaps career amendments judging by current Investment Banking standards. Only issue I have is that unfortunately is my left vocal chord is paralysed - perhaps damaged nerve from the open heart so will see where this leads - just need to recover properly and can get the Blue CL finished and start this GTI properly!

Hoping time may heal the issue with you vocal chord but in the scheme of things good to hear all is  well and you are on the mend. I guess making sure you get plenty of rest is a priority. Maybe time to focus on "To Do" lists and organising tasks so when you are back to full strength you can make steady progress on the fleet ☺
Best wishes.

Little update:

The GTI has been on my mind constantly whilst I've had the recovery time. I've had a few offers to sell up, some at considerable money. However, it's still here and should be for the long term.

Luckily, my vocal chord seems to have repaired itself so the rest of my recovery should be straight forward. However, I'm still only limited to 5KG weight limit which makes doing things a hassle.

I started looking at getting the car MOT ready, it seems that due to being an import 84' the wiring hasn't got the factory spotlamps due to coming with the single headlight setup. I'm not an automotive electrician but the wiring for me needs to be either tidied up or put back to stock. I might see if I can change it to be plug and play to change from spotlamps etc because I can't quite make up my mind at the moment.

Temporarily I've put electical tape around all the wires individually and then together to protect them as some bits do look sketchy.

After that, started by getting all the bulbs etc working:

Finally got spotlights

These bulbs were past it!

Only thing I haven't been able to solve is indicators not working - green light stuck on the clock and hazzards not working at all. I've tried taking the relay from the blue CL and putting it in the GTI. Still nothing, so need to investigate further.

Randomly noticed too that this has a washer bottle in the bay - I thought it all boots from a rear bottle unless it's just the rear which is seperate? Anyone know anything on this?

Funny enough, everything on this car is in German

Do need to buy some new headlights at some point!

Also discovered that the original fabric for the sunvisors is under the retrim. I need to find a matching headliner too.

Looks good from a distance, although the painter is coming over to quote in the next few weeks. I'm in a toss up between painting the whole thing or trying to preserve as a surivor car by fixing the only bits that need doing. It's by no means a show car and is 'characterful':

Whole car is faded bar the painted passenger door which needs repainting due to lacquer peel. This picture makes it looks worse than it is.

Still can't do much for the moment so decided to remove the red stripe from the bumper:

Better but needs a red stripe grill.

Got a linkage rebuild kit for the GTI - need to get the CL sorted first then I can focus on this when I'm more recovered.

3 and half weeks and counting.

That's all for now!

I had this issue when my hazard switch wasn't plugged in correctly. The hazard switch is a key part of the indicator loom and the indicators won't work if there's something wrong with the hazard switch. So I'd start there, check the switch is plugged in properly, if it is then check the switch itself, perhaps ask the Macs nicely to try one of theirs to see if the issue is your switch.

If the switch is OK and plug is good then I'd start following the wires back from there and check for any obvious breaks.

Good luck, hope it's an easy fix.

Good shout, I did try unplugging and putting it back in -  I’ll swap the CL and GTI switch to see if any difference occurs!

Good to see you are back in the groove. I might be wrong but I think early cars had two washer bottles later models use one with a different pump which turns either way depending on the selection.

Forgot you had a whole spare car to swap bits from, lol

Yeah it’s quite handy like that! Swapped the hazzard switch over but unfortunately no dice!
