It's a 3 door Golf so great. And seems like a decent enough price in the current market. Although a few points that might help you negotiate it down to £3k (which is closer to where I personally feel it should be).

It's a Driver, so will never command GTI money, even if it's a complete replica with GTI parts. That's just how it is.
And still registered as a 1600cc 74hp so the VR6 swap has not been declared with DVLA.

This can be a pain in the butt to sort out, especially as a new owner with no documentation on the swap. And until it's sorted this could make getting insurance a problem, or you'll get insured but in the event of a claim they'll try and get out of paying as the car is not what it claims to be, regardless of declared mods.

There are a couple of mileage discrepancies, one of them at least will most likely be at the time the Vr6 was fitted, as looking at the interior pics it has Mk3 clocks, which always look a bit crap in a Mk2 IMO.

It's Vr6 converted and has mk3 clocks, seats and is 5 stud so looks like someone had a whole donor and took most of it, so you should be fine for brakes etc, but there's no way to know the quality of the build and you might not find out about bodges till later on.

It's CE2 so the swap should have been easier and hopefully no loom bodges.

It's got GTI big bumper kit on it, which it wouldn't have had as a Driver, even as a late spec car it would have still been small bumper.

It looks like it needs a new dash and door seals.

It's had paint, so looks shiny and nice, which again is great, but there's no way to know what the shiny paint might be hiding, or how well any repairs underneath might have been done.

On the face of it, it looks ok and worth a look in person. But it comes down to what you want from one. Clearly, you're not fussed about factory spec originality but as a modified golf ready to drive it seems like it could be good - but understand it'll be a continuous ongoing journey.
