Howdy!

Hi all, new member!
I’m currently on my second Mk2 Golf! My first one was a red big bumper 16v I sold to Dave Kennedy who was deputy editor at PVW approximately 10 years ago.
I soon regretted selling it, as many of us do!
Then back in summer 2020 I took a 6 hour train journey to Scotland to buy my current mk2, which is a white small bumper 3dr with a 20v swap.
Hope to meet some new faces this summer at some events 👍🏻

Welcome , Glad to hear your back in a mk2 . So the new one you’ve got , does it need much or is it all done , well actually are they ever finished ?
You need to get some pics up .
Will we see it at the National meet in the summer ?

The car is pretty much where I want it, as you say they are never completely done! I do have a small jobs I still plan on doing to it, but overall I’m happy with the car and just enjoying using it when I get the opportunity.

I’m hoping to make the national meet in the summer and hopefully some other events this year too.
I’ll try and get some photos up later. 👍🏻

Wow that looks ultra clean and a very neat install. Was the engine all done when you bought it. What sort of bhp is that ?

Thanks! Yes the engine was already in when I bought the car. The hard work had already been done! I just gave it a bit of a spruce up.
Power wise I'm not 100%, I would guess 260-280ish hp.
It's a rebuilt bam motor, Large FMIC, 3" Downpipe and Exhaust, Jabba remap etc.
It could do with a LSD ideally as you can't put the power down till 3rd gear in the dry, but its good fun!

This is how the engine bay looked when I first got the car...

interesting car.

i wonder what the engine sounds like.
how is it compared to the 16v or the vr6 ?
how can there be 4 cylinders and 20 valves, by the way ?
how much fuel does it need ? ;-)

after clicking on your pictures,
fickr almost forcefeeded me additional impressions of your car,
showing 20VT batches.
have there been factory fitted mk2's with that motor
or what was going on ?

you have prolonged the rain-cover
on the top left with something shiny. what is it ?
the red tubing has vertical groves.
is it 3d-printed with tpu or something?

the battery and the wiper fluid are in the trunk ?
how log till the windscreen get wet ? ;-)
is there something special about the interior, too ?

edit: i forgot about the wheels, but you answered faster,
so i'll perhaps put it below.

Hi there, I'll try and answer you're questions as best I can!
The engine is pretty loud as it has a 3" exhaust system and only one silencer. Almost too loud really.
Personally I don't think you can beat the sound of the R32 engines though! Even more so if they're turbo'd!
Regarding valves, 5 valves per cylinder 3 inlet 2 exhaust per cylinder so that makes the 20v.
Fuel consumption is actually pretty decent, I don't have exact figures but it's definitely not too bad.
The 20v Badges were off a guy I found on Instagram/Facebook 'Renewart'. Very good quality badges, he does loads of custom stuff and they look OEM.
The Scuttle tray/Rain cover is by SNRETRO again on Facebook. I think you can order shiny, matt or possibly carbon look finishes.
Red tubing is just regular red silicone hoses. Nothing fancy.
Battery and windscreen washer bottle have both been relocated to the boot.
The Interior is full Golf Rallye interior, seats and doorcards. I'll try and get a pic up of it.
Any other questions just ask, I'll do my best to answer.

nice :-)

the wheels now: it must be optical, but the diameter looks a bit small
in respect to the gear ratio, and the rims remind me about bmw ones.
have you gotten to know more about them ?

Yea they're only a 15" rim. Tyres are 195 45 15s. I'm not 100% on the exact wheel specs.
Gearbox is an 02J ENJ code from a mk4 golf I believe. 5th gear could do with being longer as I'm at almost 3k rpm at 80mph.
I have a 02J Diesel box I'm going to swap the longer 5th gear from in the summer to give me a lower rpm for motorway driving.
