Great info again, thank you.
If I buy the scirocco seats, I’ll update this page for posterity.

S - V / Re: Seats
Great guide!
I don’t suppose you know whether early Gti seats are compatible with mk2 Scirocco bases?
I’ve heard that Scirocco seats can go lower than Golf seats and I’m tempted, thinking maybe swap my foam and seat covers onto a scirocco frame, but suspecting there might be some subtle differences that would throw a spanner in the works.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Breakdown
Agree with the above, but to add my 2 cents -

I had the same symptoms on my Kjet, I changed the fuel pump relay and it was fine, briefly - but then the issue came back. I think the recurrence was caused by a loose battery negative lead, since tightening it up and cleaning the earth there for good measure, it seems to be fine. Touch wood.

Will keep an eye on your updates, hope it’s straightforward for you.

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: Car cuts out - fuel pump electrics?
Thanks Eddypeck!! Hadn’t seen the link as I’m always on my phone, but will defo check it out shortly. Sounds very useful and relevant for me. Appreciate your input, as always - thanks again

I.C.E & Electrical / Car cuts out - fuel pump electrics?
Wonder if anyone has any experience with an issue I’m currently having where the engine cuts out on my ‘86 Gti. I’ll be driving along normally when the rev counter suddenly drops to zero as the engine dies, but lights and MFA etc still have power.  Occasionally it restarts straight away, but normally I prod the fuse box for a minute or two before it will work. I noticed that the fuel pump relay felt pretty warm, but not burning hot.

When I checked under the bonnet, the battery negative lead (including the earth) was loose - could this cause the fuel pump to cut out, without (noticeably) affecting anything else? I tightened the connection to the battery and the Golf ran home fine, but it could be pure luck…

A bit of history: I had some issues last year with the fuel pump electrics - initially the relay went, then (after a second breakdown) the garage noticed a problem with the earth wiring behind the fuse box. Both of these issues had the same effect as above, i.e. they led the car to cut out. After the wiring was fixed and the car ran well - until now!

The negative lead for the battery may be a red herring (but so could my prodding of the fuse box)! Unsure if it’s a new wiring problem or perhaps the root cause is an issue with the fuel pump itself, or something totally different. Either way, I’m sure it will be fun finding out  :D

One other thing I noticed - I think the problem is worse when the car is warm, it has never failed to start or cut out immediately after starting, it always lets you drive a few miles away from home first haha

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Wiper motor
Thank you!! That’s my assumption too and if the part numbers are the same it sounds promising. Cheers for the info on brands too. 7zap is clearly one for me to bookmark!  ;D

Engine & Gearbox / Wiper motor
Hi everyone
Does anyone know whether a pre-87 car would require a different front wiper motor from a post-87?
(Mine is an early Gti where the wipers go the ‘wrong’ was across the screen like in a LHD car, unsure which part number I should be looking for!)
Thanks in advance

I.C.E & Electrical / Re: windscreen wipers
An update on the blower / wiper situation… I’ve changed the relay which saw the wipers spring into action for about 1/2 a second… before dying again. I’m wondering whether this is a wiring issue behind the fuse board, might take it to a professional next unless anyone has any ideas?
Cheers all

Mk2 Golf Chat / 2022 - plans and ambitions for next year
So, what are your car-related plans or ambitions for the year ahead? Whether it’s finishing a restoration, planning a road trip, or a something totally different, it would be really interesting to hear what people are lining up…!

My own plan for next year is to treat the Mk2 to an uncommon “long-distance” (for me) road trip, from SE England to the Yorkshire Dales - visiting the highest pub in the UK while I’m at it. It’s not something I would even be entertaining if it wasn’t for the help and advice from everyone on here over the past year and more - thanks all, and Happy New Year!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Door pin pull collar
Thanks so much for the info! Appreciate it.

As it happens, I have already done the glue on the backs to keep them solid - probably inspired by Eddypeck a few years ago! It seems to have worked (although clearly the hole for the door lock pin is the wrong size / shape, so they’re not perfect)

I had the door cards off again to fix a window mech and change the plastic sheeting which I was using as a door membrane. Swapped the sheeting for some OEM foam, bought it off eBay and cut it to size. Hard to tell, but I do think it has made the car quieter on the move! Also it has stopped the rustling of plastic when I drop the driver’s window, because I’ve fitted it properly this time.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Door pin pull collar
Thanks Eddypeck! (Again!  :)) )
That’s exactly the part I was talking about. Yours seems to fit perfectly  8) guess I will see what some superglue can do for mine. Shame nobody sells new door cards (far as I can tell), suspect they’d have some good business.
Cheers

Mk2 Golf Chat / Door pin pull collar
Hi all. I was doing a job on the Golf over the weekend and had taken the door cards off, when I found a bit of black plastic that looked like it should sit on the top of door card, around the ‘Golf tee’ that you push down to lock the doors. EBay has them listed as ‘door pin pull collars’.

Does anyone have these on their car?

I was pleased to find it, it looks smart, but doesn’t stay put. I put it into the right place but it seems to attach itself to the ‘Golf tee’, rather than the door card - so every time I unlock the door, it parts company with the door card. Possibly because my door cards aren’t in great nick so don’t hold it in place properly, I wonder if some super glue might help. Should it just clip into place and stay put?

Cheers
