So as it's mid summer now, I've been doing some research as I'm hoping to get a winter cover ready before I need it.Whilst not ideal, I do store my car outside and it's not 100% watertight despite my best efforts (but this isn't the place to discuss that).I have a shortlist of 3 products (price quoted at time of writing):Every Car Covered - WeatherPro £164https://www.everycarcovered.com/products/vw-golf-mk2-mk3-mk4-1983-2003-weatherpro-car-coverStorm Stormforce - Outdoor £187.96https://www.stormcarcovers.co.uk/products/vw-car-coversRichbrook - Stormguard £195https://richbrook.co.uk/product/stormguard-volkswagen-tailored-4-layer-outdoor-car-covers/All of the above are a 4 layer all year cover: robust outer layer, padded second layer, soft inner lining with waterproof/breathable membrane. They are all listed as the same product for Mk1 to Mk4, so clearly not perfectly tailored to a Mk2. Additional straps and locking kits are available for extra £££.All three companies produce other covers, there are winter only ones which are cheaper as 2 layer option. I imagine they would sweat in warm days and break down in direct sunlight. Also indoor covers and other accessories.The specs, descriptions and reviews for all 3 products are very similar. The most expensive, the Richbrook one has sone Auto Express awards, 2021 and 2022.The cheapest, Every Car Covered seems like the 'underdog', I get the impression it's a smaller family run business and this make me feel like even though it's cheaper the quality would be no less, they're just trying to stay competitive.On this occasion Trust pilot offers no help, Every Car Covered (3.5) and Storm Car Covers (3.1) but out of only 4 reviews each it's easy to get bad results when a couple of people have a negative experience. For Every Car Covered on of the negative comments is about the customer service not the product.Richbrook scored 3.8 but out of only have 3 reviews and all for different products.There is another company that offers tailored fit specific to a Mk2 but other than the link below I'm not going any further with that as that price is just too much for me.Specialised Covers - Stormshield £249https://www.specialisedcovers.com/stormshield-outdoor-cover_
Re: Car covers Reply #17 – June 05, 2023, 11:15:05 AM I used a carcoon outdoor cover which was lent to me so don't know what it cost. I have to say I found it worked extremely well the only problem I found when it snowed it could not take the weight and sagged. The car was always dry whatever the weather. It did get blown about by the wind but the car was very small an mg midget and the cover was medium sized so it never touched the car.

Mine is a big bumper model.I had shows two weeks running and didn’t need to use the car in between. But as it happens we’ve had some pretty stormy weather so glad I put it on.I can’t imagine the other two suppliers I looked at would have been much different.The one draw back I can think of, is out of sight, out of mind. Every time I look out the window or go out of the house it would make me smile seeing the Golf. Obviously it's still very much there but it's hidden. Odd how that plays tricks with you. It's also prevented nipping out and doing the quick 15-30 min jobs. Even though it takes a few seconds to remove and refit it feels like effort - as a result, I've done a lot less National Meet prep than I would normally do. The rain this past week also hasn't helped with enthusiasm to clean and polish though. But at least I know when I unwrap it Friday morning it should still be clean enough and will be dry inside.

Re: Car covers Reply #24 – August 15, 2023, 09:29:51 AM Absolutely no issues at all. There are 2 straps that go under it. They have a clip at either end so in theory you can disconnect them, lay them on the ground and drive the car over it so they're in position to be clipped to the cover. I haven't tried but I suspect this would work on gravel, and that I have to turn and reverse. It's tricky with the car low but I just chuck the strap as far under as I can and reach from the other side. But I only do this occasionally, if I'm expecting bad weather. It's usually not strapped up, and it's fitted well enough with the elastic under the bumpers and around the wheels. I think the mirror pockets help keep it in place too.The car is clean and dry and ready for when I want it.The down side is, when I just want to pop to the shops I now take my wife's Mk5 because I can't be bothered to take the cover off.
