OEM / Re: Original Sales Brochures - New ones added
Darn, I have them as PDF. I’ll try and get round to fixing the links at some point and just going direct to the files. In the meanwhile if anyone wants copies just pm me

Regional Meets / Re: South West/Bristol - First Friday Motor Meet - 2024 dates added
Does't look likely, but is this still going ahead?

Hi, sorry only just seen this. Not been on much lately.

Yes this still goes on every month (except January) on the first Friday.

I’ve started to push this out to more groups as a general car meet as so many of the regulars (myself included now) either no longer have a mk2 or their mk2 is off the road and they come in their daily or alternative motor.

For the first time in a very long time there was no mk2 golf, in fact not even a VW last Friday. The closest we had was my sons SEAT Leon FR, I was in my new Mini, and we had Porsche there. So VAG and a good spattering of German.

The next meet, and last one of the year will be December 5th.

We usually get a decent turnout for the December meet, with the option to go into the carvery for a dinner.

New Members Say Hi! / Re:
You may notice the forum is taking the word R.a.r.e and replacing it with uncommon to counter act the over use of that term.

Many things are listed as r.a.r.e when they weren’t really. It’s hype.

For me I’m not a fan of Oak green, it’s a bit of an old man’s colour and doesn’t really shout sports car for me.

Unless you’re in a British car in racing green then I think red, white or black are the “sporty” colours. With blue maybe creeping in.

I am fond of calypso green as a colour but again it doesn’t scream GTI which is probably why it’s not that popular

New Members Say Hi! / Re: Hello from South Wales
Welcome, depending on your location there’s a monthly Bristol meet just over the bridge. There’s quite a few of us in the south west and south wales area.

General Chat / Re: Well I’ll be off then
I did wonder after seeing you list a few spares on facebook recently. And knowing you had previously toyed with the idea of moving it on.

I jumped into the forum to find out, as I have to admit I’m hardly on here anymore either.

Maybe it will disappear into someone’s private collection or maybe it will hit the shows and continue to win awards.

Will keep an eye out.

All the best

Mk2 Golf Insurance Scheme / Re: New Mk2 Golf Owners Club Insurance scheme
I wanted to add my son to my policy and the club insurer were unable to do it. But I've been with Lancaster previously on a classic policy. They couldn't add a learner to a classic policy but were able to move me to a mainstream policy which he could be added too and it was a better deal than anyone else.

Interior, Upholstery & Trim / Re: Internal Water Leak
I just went with clear plastic on mine. I think at the time we’d recently bought a new mattress or something so had large sheets of the packaging. I’m not sure the foam stuff they do now would be as flexible but I’m sure some people have used it.

New Members Say Hi! / Re: New member south west
Hiya! I'm a new member! I'm in Gloucestershire, I bought my 89 GTi from a lovely couple in Leeds so I guess that's one more in the SW!

@Clomojo there's North Bristol meet this Friday. There are a fair few of us along the M5 stretch between Bristol and Gloucester that attend every month, Thornbury, Dursley, Stroud, Quedgeley etc.
