General Chat / Re: National Meet prep
Last year went I stayed over in Curborough I realised I was in the middle of no-where with few shops/supermarkets on the doorstep. (That big building nearby is a warehouse!). I'm a city dweller so can't be too far away from this stuff!  :)

However I did go to the Ventura Retail Park, at Tamworth. It's about 12 miles/30min drive away. It has many shops including Blacks the camping shop, a great find!

Ventura Retail Park

There is also Asda and Sainsburys too!

Hoping to join you guys early evening unless it's tipping in down, if so it might be tomorrow.
Save me a dry patch :)

General Chat / Re: National Meet prep
Like other campers we have an assortment of tents.. a 5 man, far too big.. A 3 man, just right but the poles went missing with son No1 when he went on DofE and a tiny 2 man with 1 broken spar..
For the club meet I bought myself a secondhand 2 man tent of FB Marketplace and today I thought I'd check all is OK and roller more waterproofing on it. Unfortunately one of the glassfibre spars has split, it wasn't expensive but just shows the quality ain't great. I was more annoyed rain stopped the waterproofing since I think I'll need it this weekend.

@vw-widow  Is the food kiosk open at refuelling times? Due to the forecast I want to keep everything  simples!

Won't the Lurpak make the tyres bit slippery - I note it's "lighter" too so should save a bit of weight 😉
Looks like I'll be Capt Slow again !

I'll be at the National seeing if I can improve on the slowest lap 😃. Think I need to swap my thermostat after the exploding rad incident.

Bodywork & Paintwork / Re: Rear door locked solid
I've not had the problem but I recall @Eddypeck having to take his front door panel off to refit the plastic "button".
I'm assuming you can't pull the button up?
To take the door panel off you will need to undo the 2x screws down each side. This might be difficult and require folding the back seat forward to get access with the screwdriver. If you can remove these then you can hopefully unclip the bottom of the inner door panel from the plastic clips and pull it away. You will need to peel the top of the panel out of the plastic window sill at the top. Hopefully you can now remove the panel and investigate.

I made an unexpected buy today- an SWG scuttle. I've been using a SNRetro one for a few years which has been fine but I always wished I had bought an SWG. A pretty basic upgrade/swap but very happy with it so thought I would share.
Assuming you've had the heavens open in the past couple of days, how has it faired keeping the water away from the ecu etc?

Suspension & Steering / Re: Car has groaning noise when turning left.
Could it be a the right front wheel bearing?
ie left turn load on right front wheel.
Do you get the same symptoms if you freewheel found a left corner so there isn't any power going through the driveshaft....it's obviously rotating tho.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: 1990 Grill
I thought the grille surround was the same colour bright red regardless of whether it is an early or a late MK2.
I've had my 91 Tornado Red Big bumper from being circa 5 years young and the grille was a brighter red than the body. However it was looking rather weathered so the other year I sprayed it Tornado Red and I think it looks better.
I guess it depends upon whether you want it original or not?
