Other Car Sales & Wanted / Re: WTB - Golf Mk3 GTi
8v or 16v and what's your budget? price increases are filtering down to mk3s now, they're no longer the disposable, pick up cheap, cars they once were.

I'm not able to help directly but happy to keep an eye out.

Thanks Eddy.
I'm after an 8v. Budget is sub £1k. They are popping up. Went to see one the other day which would have been great but the guy wanted slightly too much and was a bit weird so I walked away. Hopefully going to look at another at the weekend. It's a shame Mk4s are so much less compatible because they are very common and dirt cheap.

Other Car Sales & Wanted / WTB - Golf Mk3 GTi
Hi,
We are looking for a Mk3 GTi as a donor car for our Mk2.
Preferably a runner that we can drive home and the nearer the south east the better.
What have you got?

Mk2 Parts for Sale & Breaking / SOLD Team Heko Heckblende
I have just removed a Team Heko Heckblende in good condition from our car. It is all red.
Up close you can see some blackening, in two places, which is the result of rubbing from behind. It isn't noticeable on the car, I didn't notice it until I had taken it off and cleaned it. Otherwise it has a couple of very small scratches on the rear which can be seen from the front, but again, not noticeable on the car.
If you are interested I can send some pics via e-mail or whatsapp.

Engine & Gearbox / Pierburg to Weber
Morning All,

I have just acquired a Mk2 Ryder 1.3l and as you may imagine the Pierburg carb needs some attention. The auto choke does not come on as it should and takes forever to go off once the car is warm. Once it is off it runs OK with a little hesitation at pull away. I have ordered a refurb kit, new mount and pull down mechanism.
However, the conventional wisdom seems to be to change to a Weber for simplicity and reliability all round, not least manual choke. This leaves me with a couple of questions. The carb I need seems to be this one from Classic Carbs.

https://classiccarbs.co.uk/product/weber-32-34-dmtl-carburettor-conversion-kit-vw-golf-polo-1-3-1272cc

The issue is it only shows it as up to 1990. I emailed the company and they replied that they were unsure if it would fit a 1991. So my question is, will it? Is there a difference between the 1990 and 1991 fitment at all? It seems unlikely but I don't want to spend £400 for it not to fit.

Unfortunately Heritage don't do a carb conversion kit for the 1.3.

Thanks for your help  :)

New Members Say Hi! / New member with Golf Ryder
Hi All,

I have joined today as I have recently bought (3 weeks) a 1991 Mk2 Ryder 1.3.
Having owned a Mk2 Driver 1.6 back in the day I have always liked these early Golfs and as luck would have it so does my son. So when the chance arose to buy this car I decided it would be a good opportunity for him to earn a bit of no claims bonus and get him into a bit of tinkering.

I have some issues to sort out, the most pressing being the carburetor. I will post questions in the relevant section. Other jobs include sorting the drivers side window and relining the headboard and refitting it. The previous owner fitted coilovers and there are some weird and wonderful creaking noises from underneath but these will get ironed out as we go along.

Once I learn how to post pictures I'll put some up.

Looking forward to being part of the community.

Phil
