New Members Say Hi! / Re: Howdy!
nice :-)

the wheels now: it must be optical, but the diameter looks a bit small
in respect to the gear ratio, and the rims remind me about bmw ones.
have you gotten to know more about them ?

New Members Say Hi! / Re: Howdy!
interesting car.

i wonder what the engine sounds like.
how is it compared to the 16v or the vr6 ?
how can there be 4 cylinders and 20 valves, by the way ?
how much fuel does it need ? ;-)

after clicking on your pictures,
fickr almost forcefeeded me additional impressions of your car,
showing 20VT batches.
have there been factory fitted mk2's with that motor
or what was going on ?

you have prolonged the rain-cover
on the top left with something shiny. what is it ?
the red tubing has vertical groves.
is it 3d-printed with tpu or something?

the battery and the wiper fluid are in the trunk ?
how log till the windscreen get wet ? ;-)
is there something special about the interior, too ?

edit: i forgot about the wheels, but you answered faster,
so i'll perhaps put it below.

I.C.E & Electrical / no rear wiping
the relay is still clicking, but the wiper-motor stays silent.
this seems to be a classic.
maybe a broken cable between the trunk-flap and the cars body.

is there anybody who can give me some clues ahead of the repair
(how electrically and mechanically testing it, how the disassembling goes and stuff) ?

edit: cable break -> broken cable

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres / Re: brake pad types
the VWII inscription and the brake pads,
suiting the brake discs (why ?) were new to me.
thank you. together we will probably sort this.

i've seen 12mm discs on the 90 hp and 10mm discs on the (rather new) 55 hp
and it's said the calipers should match each.

but on the 90 hp, i have brake drums on the rear,
so, given they are matching, i could only use the two on the top of the picture.

a gti probably has 20mm air-vented discs and matching calipers. right ?
edit: or was it 22mm ?

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres / brake pad types
i've got TRW GDB454 brake pads:

VWA: 20887, 20888 (part numbers ?). It's for models from 08/83 till 12/92.
YM9805 and PR4154 has been written by hand on the packaging.

the mechanic, who unstucked my screws, said i fetched the wrong brake pads.
according to him, there are 3 types for mk2's.

is somebody around here, who can tell me more about those types ?
are they related to the strength of the engine ?

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres / Re: screws stuck in brake caliper
thank you all.

this time i opted for the garage, and everything went fine.
the problem again was the long, thin neck of the screw.

maybe i should put in thicker ones now, before they are stuck again.

@Eddypeck: i have some manuals.
is there one, which you could recommend ?

Technical / knocking sound, accel from 80 till 90 km/h
i'm just a litte uncomfortable about it
and want to be sensible enough to investigate early.

the sound is like oily metal hitting.
it's boldest if i accelerate from 80 to 90 km/h. then, i can feel it in my seat.
it is more silent when i don't accelerate or drive at other speeds.

what could i check ?

General Chat / Re: Test your knowledge!
thank you, but i guess they aren't it.

anyway, i'm able to literraly uncover the heritageparts part now.
it's all below the rockerpanel.

heritage gave us a little hint (fitting info).
they said this pin would go in those grommets:

i saw the pin when i levered off one side of the rockerpanel (after removing one or two screws).
one side goes into the grommet, the other in a clipping rail of the rocker panel.

now i have a guess about part, which i made a picture of.
it might be a blind for, for whatever reason, unused fixing holes.

they seem to be a little chewed up on the top, but the cavity wax hasn't peeled of.
i can not find any such bungs from below.

cause i already have a broken rockerpanel,
im a bit reluctant about ripping off the whole part just for looking,
but maybe there are some restoration pictures on here,
which may show possible locations. i will take a look.

General Chat / Re: Dodgy Members...
in the new members say hi section,
there seems to be a pornspam high tide, over the last few days.
and sometimes it takes some of them, until an admin comes by.

the solution could probably lie in the filters, that you have there,
but no harsh measures, please ;-)

Knowledge Library / 3D-Models
Over the last years, especially plastic 3D-Printers became affordable, and thus publicly available.
Since there are many not too complicated small plastic parts on a MK2,
one could have some of those out of the own 3D-Printer
and even improve them and create new ones.

In the MK2-Chat section,
after discussing some legal implications
we had an exchange about 3D-Models (general questions and further discussions could go in there).

Since it seemed to be somewhat helpful, I thought I would make it a library thread, for updating this thread-starter by time.
