I.C.E & Electrical / trailer indicator warning light
in germany, it is mandatory to have a green
trailer indicator warning light in the cockpit. how is it in the uk ?

which is the professional way of equipping a mk2 with such ?
would it somehow go into the facia panel ?

Mk2 Parts Wanted / mud flaps
since i have to go off-road from time to time
and do not like the hole side and rear muddy,
i am searching for 2, 6 or 8 mud flaps.

it may look like a old man's car, then,
but yes, i want it, plus i already have 2
on the front side.

once i saw them on a wreck yard,
but they scrapped the car all to fast.

i found a fitting manual (mk3, but same for mk2)
and a picture out of an out of stock offer:


may anyone give me a hint, where i may get them cheep ?
they do not need to be new.

Engine & Gearbox / 4 or 5 gears ?
going steady 30 km/h in the 3rd, steady 50 km/h in the 4th,
but from 70 km/h on, i would miss a fifth gear on my already farreaching 55 ps.

has vw had a reason for the 4-gear-standard (which some call robust) ?

Mk2 Golf Chat / plastic-parts for 3d-printing
for people who would not mind having 3d-printed spareparts in their cars,
i have made a list of links to freely available 3d-models, which i deem useful.

those i've even made myself:

fronstspeakergrid screwcap (sticking by magnet)
liner nut
headlight adjustment ancor (wrong threading, the screw will tend to stick, but it did for me)

the source code comes with them, but since i know the matter,
feel free to ask if you need some adaptions.

Suspension & Steering / where to get abs parts ?
to feel safer, i would like to put anti lock breaking in,
but i do not know where i can get the parts
(and what to do exactly).

doing sone research, i know that
the mk2 abs control unit is not powerful enough
for significantly shortening the braking distance.
therefore it should be mk3/seat toledo abs
or even newer.

there are some wheel hubs and sensors on amazon,
but i have not found e.g a control unit.

then i need to know, how to put everything in.

searching for abs does hit almost anything.
which threads about it have there been before ?

i searched the forum for "netiquette", but found nothing.
are there such particular guidelines
in addition to the general therms ?

is it for instance ok to go all lowercase ?

New Members Say Hi! / having 4 mk2 cars, searching fanclub in sw-germany
hello folks,

we have as much as 4 mk2 cars in the family.

my father bought his first one brand new in the 80s.
it was our family car.

my first car was also a golf 2.
later i tried a golf 3, but it just was not the same.
i do not even deem it a real sucessor to the golf 2.

for me it is heartbreaking to see so many mk2 cars
beeing dismantled or rusting apart.

after gathering some experience  about maintaining the cars,
i searched the web for a fanclub, and i found this one.

it might be good for sharing,
but does anybody know about a more local group, too ?
this would be nice. i live in south-western germany.
